All permitted food establishments are inspected every 6 months or when a complaint is received. We monitor temperature and the storage of food products, as well as overall cleanliness of establishment. When we receive a written complaint a visit is made to the site to determine if the problem is a public health hazard. If public health is affected then a notice to correct unsanitary conditions is issued. Hotel/Motel inspections are performed twice a year or when a complaint is received. Many initial items are inspected including: water and ice supply, sewage and solid waste disposal, guest room facilities and accessories, general sanitation, construction and storage. The overall safety of the building is inspected as well. For example: exit doors, electrical distribution systems, fire hazards, and safety locks. Mobile Home/RV Park inspections are performed once a year or when a complaint is received. During a routine inspection we look for general layout of the Park, adequate water supply as well as an approved source, plumbing and sewage disposals. There are also several other miscellaneous items we inspect. Those items include: insects, rodents, weeds, lighting requirements, electrical distribution systems, and all fire hazards. Youth camp inspections are performed once a year or if a complaint is received. There are several items that are taken into consideration when inspecting a youth camp. Fro example: environmentalists look at the camp layout, the lodging facilities, as well as the toilet, lavatory, and shower facilities. We also check the sewage disposal, water supply system, solid waste disposal, all swimming facilities, insect rodent, and pest control. The camps are also checked for any records, reports, medical charts, and first aid supplies. Also, overall safety and all fire hazards are inspected. Tattoo and ear piercing parlor inspections are performed twice a year or when a complaint is received. The main items inspected are sterilization and sanitation of all equipment. Other items include: lighting, ventilation, toilet and hand washing facilities, building fixtures, storage, refuse handling (i.e. Approved waste containers) and personnel ( ie. clean clothes). School inspections are made twice a year. Once when the school open and once before the school year ends. Items inspected include: adequate lighting in rooms, all plumbing and sewage fixtures, janitor closets, boiler rooms, storage areas, playground equipment and area, cafeteria, fire hazards, and overall safety of building. There are two types of public swimming facilities: seasonal and continuous. These facilities are inspected every 30 days for chlorine levels, ph levels and alkalinity levels. Pump rooms are also inspected for flow meter readings, pump equipments and proper use. A pool-side inspection is also done which includes: checking for proper safety and first aid equipment, proper depth markings, and over all cleanliness of the filter baskets. A rabies investigation is performed when a person or persons either comes in contact, scratched, or bitten by an animal. Such animals of interest include: dogs, cats, bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes etc. A visit is made to retrieve the animal once a bite, scratch, or contact is reported. Then if the animal is still alive we quarantine the animal for 10 days because the incubation period for rabies is 3 to 8 days. If it is a wild animal it is usually euthanized and shipped to the state laboratory for testing. If the animal in question is a pet it is released back to its owner. All plumbing inspections are performed by the State Plumbing Inspector Don Miller. His office hours are 12-1 p.m. on Tuesdays and 1-2 p.m. on Thursdays.
