Arthritis Self-Help Classes
Provides people with arthritis information on how to take a more active role in their treatment.
Breast Feeding Classes
Provides pregnant and breastfeeding women with information about the benefits of breastfeeding and other related topics.
Car Seat Checks
Provides education on the current use of car seats including current safety standards. Provides a limited number of car seats for income eligible infants and toddlers.
Cholesterol Education Classes
Defines cholesterol and triglyceride values and offers dietary and lifestyle modifications to aid in improving both.
PSI
Postponing Sexual Involvement Educational Series for Preteens on "how to say no" is a program developed to help young people learn skills to resist pressures to become sexually involved before they are ready for such involvement. The Series provides participants with tools to help them bridge the gap between their physical development and their cognitive ability to handle the implications for such development.
Cooper-Clayton Smoking Cessation Classes
Focuses on how to become a non-smoker using support and nicotine replacement products.
Diabetes Information and Education
The Diabetes Support Groups are designed to support and assist people living with diabetes. The Adult Support Group meets at 7pm on the 2nd Monday of every month at the Mason County Extension Office. The Youth Support Group meets at 6:30 pm on the 4th Monday of every month at the Mason County Public Library. Free Diabetes classes are offered five times a year for person's who are newly diagnosed with diabetes and/or for family members of people with diabetes. The Buffalo Trace Diabetes Coalition meets quarterly at the Mason County Health Department. The Coalition has a commitment to raising diabetes awareness in the five county area as well as sponsors various community activities too assist people with diabetes. Established yearly activities include: Diabetes Fair, Kidney Screening, and CEU program for nurses.
HANDS Home Visit Program
Health Access Nurturing Development Services ( HANDS ) is a voluntary home visitation program to provide support for new and expecting first time parents. A few areas in which support is offered are: Information to support healthy pregnancy; baby care information; information on ways to help keep babies safe; facts about baby's growth and development; activities to stimulate baby's brain development; information on other community resources.
Baby Gala
An annual event that provides new and expectant parents a chance to learn about community resources available to assist them in raising their new child.
Healthy Start
Provides consulation to day care providers on issues of health, safety and nutrition.
PACE Classes/Arthritis Exercise
A group recreational exercise program designed specifically for arthritis.
Safe Sitter Classes
Provides instruction for ages 11-13 year old boys and girls with skills for safe, nurturing care for children and proper response to medical emergencies.
Health Department Speaker's Bureau
The Health Department staff is available upon request to provide health education presentations to community groups and organizations. Please call the Health Department's Health Educator for more details.
